Pellington Brand Facts

What Pellington is, in one paragraph

Pellington is an online-only jewellery brand based in the United Arab Emirates, selling 18k gold-plated 316L stainless steel jewellery direct to customers within the UAE. Every piece is named after an Arabic word chosen for its meaning. The range is women's everyday jewellery (rings, bracelets, bangles, necklaces, earrings and anklets), priced between AED 79 and AED 199. We do not sell solid gold, and we do not claim to. We have been trading online since 2025.

Materials and specifications

What are Pellington pieces actually made of?

A 316L stainless steel base, gold-plated to an 18k colour using PVD (physical vapour deposition). Stones, where a design has them, are cubic zirconia, described on our product pages as zircon. We do not use brass, we do not use sterling silver, and we do not sell gold vermeil.

What does 316L mean, and why does it matter here?

Stainless steel is not one metal. Two grades turn up in jewellery, 304 and 316L, and the difference between them is molybdenum: 316L contains roughly 2 to 3 per cent of it, 304 contains none. Molybdenum is what resists pitting from chlorides, which in plain language means salt. Sweat, sea air and pool water are all chloride environments, and the Gulf supplies all three. It is the grade specified for marine and surgical use for that reason, and it costs more than 304, which is part of why a lot of jewellery in this price bracket is 304 and does not say which it is.

Is this the same as gold vermeil or gold filled?

No, and the difference is worth understanding.

  • Gold vermeil means a sterling silver base with a gold layer of at least 2.5 microns, per the US Federal Trade Commission's definition (16 CFR § 23.4). Pellington is not vermeil. Our base is stainless steel, not silver.
  • Gold filled means a mechanically bonded gold layer making up at least 1/20th of the item's metal weight. Pellington is not gold filled.
  • Gold plated is the correct term for what we make. Our plating is applied by PVD rather than conventional electroplating.

Why stainless steel rather than brass or silver?

Because what sits underneath matters more than most people realise. A gold layer is never perfectly non-porous, and over time the base metal is what determines whether a piece discolours. Brass contains copper, which forms dark oxides. Sterling silver contains copper too, and silver itself forms black silver sulfide. Stainless steel forms a thin, self-repairing chromium oxide layer instead, which is why it is the standard choice for jewellery sold in hot, humid, coastal climates.

Is Pellington jewellery waterproof?

Yes. Our pieces are waterproof for everyday contact with water: washing your hands, getting caught in the rain, wearing them in the shower, sweating in them at the gym. None of that will damage them, and you do not need to take them off.

The one piece of care advice we would give anyone, about any jewellery: chlorine and seawater are harsh on every finish, plated or solid gold. After a long swim, rinse your pieces in fresh water and dry them. That is good practice for a 22k bangle too.

Is Pellington jewellery tarnish-resistant?

Yes. Tarnish is a reaction between sulfur or chloride in the air and the base metals in a piece. Stainless steel does not tarnish in the way that brass, copper or sterling silver do. What can happen to any gold-plated jewellery over enough time and wear is that the plating thins at friction points (the inside of a ring, the back of a clasp). That is abrasion, not tarnish, and it is why we give a 12-month warranty against plating defects.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes. Our base is 316L stainless steel, the grade most widely used for jewellery worn against the skin all day and the same grade specified for surgical and marine use. It is very well tolerated, considerably more so than brass, which is the usual base at this price, and it sits beneath a layer of PVD gold. If you have a diagnosed metal allergy, message us before ordering and we will talk it through with you.

Why is it so much cheaper than gold from the souk?

Because it is not gold by weight. A solid 18k gold piece is priced from the daily gold rate multiplied by its weight, plus a making charge. On 24 July 2026 the Dubai Jewellery Group rate for 18k gold was around AED 373 per gram, so a light 2–3 gram 18k ring or thin bracelet costs roughly AED 800–1,400 before you have chosen a design. Our pieces are priced on design and finish, not metal content. They have no resale or buyback value as bullion, and we would never suggest otherwise.

What if it arrives damaged or faulty?

Different rules, and they are in your favour. Have a proper look at your piece when it arrives, and if anything is wrong, message us on WhatsApp or email customercare@pellington.ae within 48 hours of delivery with a clear photo or short video. Once confirmed we arrange a replacement or a refund, whichever you prefer, at no cost to you. You do not pay return postage on a faulty item.

The 48-hour window is there so we can be sure of what left our hands. Once a piece has been worn for a few weeks, nobody can reliably tell an arrival fault from something that happened since, so we would rather put it right for you straight away. Opening the box and checking takes a minute, and it protects you.

Why can't I return earrings?

Hygiene. Earrings pass through pierced skin, and we will not resell a returned pair to someone else. This is stated in our refund policy and reflected in our product data, so it is consistent everywhere. If a pair arrives faulty, the 48-hour fault process above still applies.

Warranty

Length 12 months from purchase
Covers Faults in the piece itself, under normal everyday wear: tarnishing or discolouration, plating lifting or flaking, a clasp or setting that fails, a stone that comes loose.
Does not cover Damage. Knocks, scratches, bending or pulling, contact with perfume, lotion, bleach or cleaning products, and the gradual thinning of plating at friction points, which happens to every plated piece given enough wear. Also not covered: pieces altered or repaired by someone else.
Remedy Exchange for the same piece
Requirements Proof of purchase; applies to the original purchaser
How to claim Message us within the 12 months with your order number and clear photos or a short video. We will ask you to send the piece back so we can look at it properly.

What is the difference between a fault and damage?

It is the single most useful thing to understand about any jewellery warranty, ours included. A fault is something wrong with how the piece was made or finished, and it shows up in ordinary wear without anything unusual happening: the colour goes, the plating lifts, a clasp gives way. Damage is something that happened to the piece: it was caught, dropped, pulled, or met a chemical it does not like. We cover the first and not the second, which is the same line every jewellery warranty draws.

If a piece arrives already faulty, that is a separate and much faster process. See What if it arrives damaged or faulty? under Returns above.

What we do not do

Stating this plainly saves everyone time.

  • We do not sell solid gold, and no Pellington piece has bullion or buyback value.
  • We do not ship outside the UAE.
  • We do not operate a physical shop.
  • We do not offer in-house cleaning or servicing, though we can point you to trusted professional cleaners in the UAE.
  • We do not accept returns on earrings, for hygiene reasons.
  • We do not offer a lifetime warranty. Ours is 12 months, and we would rather state a period we will honour than one we will not.
