About the Opalia Clover Opal Necklace
Opalia hangs an opal cut as a four-leaf clover inside a halo of zircon from a fine cable chain of 1.9 mm, 40 cm long with a 5 cm extender. The opal is the whole point: it carries colour where every other stone in the range carries only light. It is 18k PVD gold plated 316L surgical-grade stainless steel.
An opal clover in a zircon halo
The halo is doing something specific here that it does not do around a clear stone. Opal is a soft, diffuse material, and a tight ring of hard bright stones gives it a defined edge, so the clover keeps its shape instead of blurring into the gold behind it. Without the halo an opal this size would read as a smudge of colour.
Why it looks different at every angle
Opal splits light rather than returning it whole, so the colour you see depends on where you are standing. Four lobes each catch that play at a slightly different angle, which is why no two photographs of this pendant agree, and why it reads as blue at a desk and pink in the evening.
A name with no meaning to give
Opalia is not an Arabic word and is not listed on The Names Behind the Pieces. It points at the stone in the pendant, and we would rather leave it at that than attach a translation after the fact.
Opal on a chain, and how to store it
Opal is the softest thing in this collection and the only material that would rather not be soaked for hours or stored against harder stones. Showering and swimming are both fine; rinse and dry afterwards, and keep the pendant in the pouch it arrives in rather than loose with a tennis chain. The gold and the zircon are indifferent to all of it, bonded by vapour deposition onto a core with nothing in it to darken, so the colour holds without tarnishing.
