Pernia is a fan of finely pleated gold, folded like paper and polished, with no stones anywhere on it. Each one stands 39.5 mm from the lobe, and the pair weighs 12 grams. It sits on a slim post with a push back. The metal is 18k PVD gold plated 316L surgical-grade stainless steel, and the whole effect depends on the folds rather than on anything set into them.

Pleating does to metal what it does to fabric: it turns a flat sheet into something with depth and rhythm, and it stiffens it at the same time. Each fold catches a different angle of light, so the fan brightens and dims as you move rather than flashing. At nearly 40 mm it is one of the two longest pairs here.
Sculpture without stones
