Where it sits
At 40 cm the chain rests right at the collarbone. With the 5 cm extender it reaches 45 cm, sitting just below the collarbone — an easy way to layer it over a shorter chain.

About the Pearlora Pendant Necklace
Pearlora hangs a sculpted seashell from a fine twisted gold chain, the shell set with a row of small pearls and scattered zircon. The pendant measures 22.1 mm high and 20.6 mm wide, and the chain runs 40 cm with a 5 cm extender at 1.9 mm. It is 18k PVD gold plated 316L surgical-grade stainless steel.
A seashell pendant, 22.1 mm by 20.6 mm
Slightly taller than it is wide, which is what keeps a shell looking like a shell rather than a fan. The fluting radiates from the hinge, and the pearls run along the widest part rather than down the centre, so the arrangement follows the shape of the object instead of being imposed on it.
A twisted chain rather than a plain cable
Most pendants here hang on a plain cable. This one uses a twisted chain, which catches light along its own length and gives the necklace something to say between the clasp and the pendant. On a piece with a coastal motif it also reads as rope, which is not an accident.
Not one of the Arabic names
Pearlora describes what is in the pendant and stands for nothing beyond it, so it does not appear on The Names Behind the Pieces alongside the words that were chosen for their meaning. A handful of designs here are named that way and we mark them rather than inventing translations.
