Three easy ways to measure
1. A ring you already wear
Take a ring that fits the finger you are buying for. Lay it on a ruler and measure straight across the inside of the circle, edge to edge. Match that number to the Across column. This is the fastest and most accurate method. It works for gifting too: quietly borrow a ring they wear on the right finger.
2. A strip of paper
Cut a thin strip of paper or use a piece of thread. Wrap it around the finger, snug but comfortable, and mark where it meets. Lay it flat against a ruler. That measurement in millimetres is the Around number. One caution: do not pull it tight. If your knuckle is wider than the base of your finger, measure both and pick a size between the two.
3. Our printable ring sizer
Print it at exactly 100% scale, never "fit to page". Check the bar on the sheet measures 5 cm, then place a ring you own over the circles until one matches its inside edge.

- Fingers are at their largest in the evening. Measure then, in a comfortably warm room.
- Your dominant hand runs slightly larger, and every finger is its own size. Measure the exact finger you are buying for.
- Index fingers run about a size larger than ring fingers. Pinkies run 1 to 2 sizes smaller.
- Measure twice and take the average.
- Between two sizes? Go up. A slightly loose ring is an easy fix. One that will not pass your knuckle is not.

About the Mawj Crystal Wave Ring
The band on the Mawj does not run straight to the stone. It divides at the shoulders into two slim rows of small clear crystals that curve upward and rise to meet a round stone held in fine claws at the top. Seen side on, the shank makes a shallow S. That is the wave the name refers to, and it is drawn into the metal rather than applied to it. The material is 18k PVD gold plated 316L surgical-grade stainless steel.
The split shoulder, and the wave it makes
Splitting a shank is a way of making a modest stone look lifted without raising it. The two rows separate, curve and rejoin under the setting, so there is open space beneath the stone and light passes through it. A solid shoulder would have made the same stone look smaller and the ring heavier.
Mawj is a wave
Mawj means wave, one of several names in the range taken from the natural world rather than from a quality. It is shared with a green-stone version of the same design. See The Names Behind the Pieces for the others.
Sizing a band that separates at the sides
A split shank spreads its contact across two narrow rows instead of one wide one, so it feels less tight than a solid band at the same measurement. That makes it forgiving: if you are genuinely between sizes, either will usually be comfortable, and the smaller will keep the stone facing upward. Sizes 6, 7 and 8, with 30 days to exchange unworn.
Everyday sparkle, hand cream and sanitiser
The open space under the setting is the part that collects, and hand cream is the usual culprit rather than water. Rinse it under the tap and the stone brightens immediately. Sanitiser, soap, chlorine and sea water leave the finish alone, because the gold is bonded by vapour deposition to steel that has nothing in it to darken, so it holds colour without tarnishing.
