A wide gold band carries a row of raised Roman numerals across its center, framed above and below by two rows of clear pavé crystals. Romana points to its Roman numeral glyphs, the classical marks that give the ring its name and its quiet structure. Wear it as a bold everyday band on its own or stack it with slimmer rings. About the Romana Glyph Ring
A row of raised Roman numerals runs around the centre of the Romana, framed above and below by two rows of small clear crystals. The numerals stand proud of the band rather than being engraved into it, so they catch light along their edges and stay legible. It is a wide band, made in 18k PVD gold plated 316L surgical-grade stainless steel.
Roman numerals, and the dates people choose them for
Numerals on a band are read as a date more often than as a number, which is why this design turns up so consistently as an anniversary or a graduation piece. Nothing here is personalised, so it works as a reference rather than a record: the numerals are fixed, and what they mean is between the wearer and whoever gave it.
Where the name Romana comes from
Romana is one of the handful of names in the range that is not Arabic. It points straight at the numerals cut into the band, and we say so on The Names Behind the Pieces rather than attaching a meaning it does not have.
Keeping a numeral band upright on the finger
A ring with a legible face only works if it stays the right way up, and a band that runs even slightly loose will rotate through the day. Size this one to sit snug at the base of the finger. Measure late in the day, but resist going up a full size: a wide loose band turns more than a narrow one, not less. Sizes 6, 7 and 8.
A wide band, hand washing and the gym
The gap between a wide band and the finger is where water sits, so dry underneath it rather than just wiping the top. Otherwise it asks nothing: soap, sanitiser, chlorine and sea water all leave the finish alone, because the gold is bonded to a steel core with nothing in it to oxidise dark, and it holds colour without tarnishing. Raised numerals take the wear before flat surfaces do, as on any relief design. The 12-month warranty covers discolouration, plating that lifts and stones that work loose.
